Las Vegas, NV, popularly known as the gambling capital of the world, is a desert city that has been developed to serve as an R & R point for travelers. During the earlier years, small inns, gasoline stations, bars and shopping stores were the only businesses thriving in the area. But with the creation of the Hoover Dam, Las Vegas metamorphosed into an entertainment area. Aside from the entertainment industry, tourism is another prime economic activity of the city with the millions of tourists visiting the city each year just to admire the beauty of the cityscape and the clash of city lights at night. As of 2007, the population of the city reached 552,539 with over 1.7 million concentrated at the metropolitan area. In addition, the city of Las Vegas has one of the highest marriage rates in the country due to the liberal marriage laws. Consequently, high divorce rates are inevitable since the legal proceedings are deemed easier when compared to other states. However, the divorce cases are not merely from those of Las Vegas residents but rather coming from all over the country and even foreigners. Moreover, the city has a high cost of living due to the number of industries established therein. Even the real estate industry is thriving and becoming one of the most expensive property markets in the country.
