About Las Vegas Nevada

Entertainment Capital of the World

Las Vegas, NV, popularly known as the gambling capital of the world, is a desert city that has been developed to serve as an R & R point for travelers. During the earlier years, small inns, gasoline stations, bars and shopping stores were the only businesses thriving in the area. But with the creation of the Hoover Dam, Las Vegas metamorphosed into an entertainment area. Gambling was one of the initial amusements in the city and other businesses followed suit from hotels, shopping malls and other entertainment gimmicks. Aside from the entertainment industry, tourism is another prime economic activity of the city with the millions of tourists visiting the city each year just to admire the beauty of the cityscape and the clash of city lights at night. Today, Las Vegas is one of the more income-generating cities of the United States.

Casinos are the major attractions in Las Vegas and if you’re visiting the city you should be able to check out the most famous ones namely Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, Four Queens, Golden Nugget, Fremont Casino, Fitzgeralds Las Vegas and Plaza Hotel & Casino. Once you’ve visited these casinos, you can definitely say that you’ve come to the heart of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas, NV is one of the fastest growing cities in United States in terms of population. As of 2007, the population of the city reached 552,539 with over 1.7 million concentrated at the metropolitan area. A huge population of Whites settled in the city together with some Black, Native American, Asian and Pacific Islander. Most of its residents are Catholic while others are Protestant, Jewish, Baptist, Pentecostal and Latter-Day Saints. In addition, the city of Las Vegas has one of the highest marriage rates in the country due to the liberal marriage laws. Consequently, high divorce rates are inevitable since the legal proceedings are deemed easier when compared to other states. However, the divorce cases are not merely from those of Las Vegas residents but rather coming from all over the country and even foreigners. Moreover, the city has a high cost of living due to the number of industries established therein. Even the real estate industry is thriving and becoming one of the most expensive property markets in the country.
